Wooden wick candles take a little extra care and attention than your standard cotton wick, but the results are well worth it!
Wooden wicks are thicker and harder than a cotton wick and it is a bit more difficult for wax and oils to be pulled into the wick to sustain a flame. A large wick will not be able to effectively pull wax and oils to the flame which can cause your candle to extinguish itself.
Wooden wicks should be trimmed to less than 1/4th inch before each burn. This can be done with a wick trimmer or by pinching off the burnt ends of the wick. This also helps the flame maintain the correct size keeping you safe and allowing you to fully enjoy your candle. If the flame is too large it can create excess soot and your candle could burn more quickly which results in a lower burn time.
The result of a properly trimmed wick:
Produces a flame that is not too large that can effectively pull wax and oils into the wick to sustain a flame. A melt pool is formed within 45-60 minutes which allows for scent to be released and for you to enjoy your candle!
When you receive your candle from Zapach Candles, your wick will already be trimmed to the correct height so you are ready to start burning right away!
